Livestock Water Heaters
These heaters are not going to soak you for your valuable dollars this winter. Heaters use regular household lightbulbs to prevent water from freezing. Your electric bills will decrease significantly compared to conventional drop heaters. There are no parts to replace except the occasional lightbulb (larger models use more than one bulb). These heaters are built to last for many years.
This example is of a 30 gallon heater that works well for larger animals such as cattle or horses. This particular model has a treated lumber base and aluminum sides. It is usually recommended to go with wood siding with larger animals.
This heater runs on only one sixty watt light bulb. The birds enjoy having unfrozen water during cold weather. The top is covered with aluminum to make cleaning easier. This model is 11" by 23" with a three gallon bucket.

This heater supplies five gallons of water. It has worked well for our mini stallion and his llama friend during the winter. This winter was the first that our mini did not colic due to a lack of water. We could never get him to drink enough. What a pleasant second savings in addition to the money saved from electricity. This model has the wood siding with an aluminum top.
